How Are Sleep Apnea and ED Related?
There have been numerous studies conducted on the condition of sleep apnea, as well as on the condition of erectile dysfunction (ED). Some of the most recent studies performed have clearly led to information that points to the fact that there is a dramatic difference in the risk factor of male individuals acquiring ED, when they have already been diagnosed with the condition of sleep apnea. One of the recent findings has clearly suggested that REM sleep or rapid eye movement is disrupted in the individuals who have sleep apnea, sometimes as many as hundreds of times every single night. What ties this in with ED is the fact that REM sleep is precisely the specific time when a male will generally obtain an erection during the night. When a man’s REM sleep is lowered, then it will also mean that the number of REM erections that he experiences will also be lowered. Because of this occurrence, it is thought that the REM erections are an important and necessary part of the process for an individual to benefit from regular sexual activities. The worse the individuals have sleep apnea, will also affect the degree of ED that a person suffers.
