Although it is extremely rare, federal health officials studying reports that have been received that involved this well known medication and the side effect of blindness. Individuals do not completely lose their vision, but instead, they will experience what is called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, and is otherwise known as NAION. This particular type of disease that affects the optic nerve of the eyes usually occurs in the male individuals that have reached the age of 50 and over, who also suffer from high cholesterol, are diabetic, or have high blood pressure. As of 2006 there was a total of 42 reports received by the FDA that included information of men who acquired this type of blindness while taking an erectile dysfunction medication such as Cialis. NAION is a disease that can cause a change in sight that makes it hard to distinguish between green and blue colors, and can cause objects to appear as if they have a blue tinge.
