How Does Propecia Stimulate Hair Growth?
The FDA approved drug Propecia is the only manufactured medication that stimulates hair growth in men with male pattern baldness. The reason this medication is able to help with male pattern baldness is that it contains ingredients that inhibit hormones that are responsible for this loss of hair.
The hormones that cause the hair loss are androgens; these are over produced in some males and are usually a hereditary condition. This over production of the hormones causes the hair follicles to shrink, causing the hair to die. Propecia stops the over production of the androgens and this allows the hair shafts to open and begin growing again. As long as the active ingredients that are contained in this medication the hair growth can continue. However, if it is stopped then the over production of hormones will begin again and any re-growth that has begun will stop and the hair that has been gained will be lost within 12 months.
Propecia is the only drug of this kind that promotes the growth of hair in males where it has been lost on the vertex and the anterior that has FDA approval and is regularly prescribed by physicians to men with male pattern baldness.
