What Does Propecia Contain?
The FDA approved drug Propeica has the ingredient finasteride, this is a synthetic inhibitor that helps to convert the androgen testosterone. This soluble ingredient that inhibits the hormones that cause male pattern hair loss. This hair loss is usually genetic and with the use of Propecia the medication that contains finasteride the hair follicles are able to begin producing hair where it has stopped growing.
When this medication is taken for an extended amount of time the bald areas will begin to grow hair and keep growing it because of the decrease of androgen. The over production of these hormones causes the shrinkage of the hair follicle and this stops hair growth. Finasteride the ingredient in Propecia is what has been found in studies to decrease the hormone allowing the hair to begin growing again. This ingredient is a crystalline powder and has a low melting point of 250 degrees, however it is insoluble in water.
The other active ingredients in Propecia are lactose monohydrate, microcystalline, cellulose pregelatinized starch, sodium starch glycolate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose LF, titanium dioxide, magnesium stearate, talc, docusate sodium and coloring. These ingredients along with the finasteride are what make this eight-sided pill able to begin new hair growth.
